Help Us Build ‘Tortoise Bluff’: A New Home for Our Incredible Sulcatas!

At Noah’s Ark, we believe every animal deserves a space where they can thrive—and our beloved group (aka creep) of African Spurred Tortoises (Sulcatas) is no exception. Like many Sulcatas in captivity, these gentle giants started life as pets. With good intentions, their former owners brought home adorable, silver-dollar-sized hatchlings, unaware of the tremendous size and care these animals require. Now, as they’ve reached the size of the third-largest tortoise species in the world, they’ve found their forever home with us—and we want to give them the space they truly deserve.

Introducing ‘Tortoise Bluff’:
We’re excited to create a naturalistic area where our Sulcatas can roam, dig tunnels, and soak up the sun just as they would in the wild. Visitors will enjoy meandering paths that provide views of these incredible animals from every angle. This exhibit will also include upgraded housing for our African crested porcupines, an area for other tortoise species, plus an educational space for our Jr. Keeper program and other learning opportunities.

Our Plan:
We need your help to make this vision a reality!

• Phase 1: Build a new home for our Sulcata creep ($5,500)
• Phase 2: Add more plants (including ‘enrichment’ plants— edible plants for both tortoises and other residents), while building a new porcupine habitat ($5,000)
• Phase 3: Create area for smaller tortoise species ($3,000)

This project will not only transform the lives of our animals but also inspire our visitors with a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation.
